1.) Did someone read to you when you were a child (who, what, when, where, why)?
Yes, my father. Around bedtime, my father would read adventure stories to my younger brother and me. Later, when I learned to read, I realized those stories didn’t often happen that way. I enjoyed those revised versions, though, complete with sound effects, too.
2.) What’s the first book you remember reading that had a lasting effect on you?
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I was in my pre-teens when I discovered this tattered book wedged among my mother’s old reading materials. The book was dusty, and the pages were about to fall out of its binder. Perhaps it was the catchy title that caught my eye. I remember I was pretty into horror stories after that.
3.) What genre(s) do you love?
When I’m in a reading slump, I mostly pick up a political thriller, a spy fiction, or a cozy murder mystery. It’s only recently that I have begun to appreciate Russian literature.
4.) Has a book ever changed your life?
There are lines from books that stay in my mind for years. They tend to surface at certain points in my life.
5.) What attracts you to a book? The cover? Podcast? Recommendation from others?
I usually check out a book or an author through a recommendation from a book I’m reading. I’ve discovered plenty of books this way.
