1.) Did someone read to you when you were a child (who, what, when, where, why)?
Yes! My dad read to me almost every night before bed.
2.) What’s the first book you remember reading that had a lasting effect on you?
When I was little I was obsessed with some random children's book about Noah's Ark. I don't even remember what it was called. That being said for some reason around 8th grade and freshman year of high school I picked up "Band of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose and "Fall of Berlin" by Antony Beevor. These two books have led to a love of reading since then.
3.) What genre(s) do you love?
History- mainly military and political history. I'll visit a good murder mystery or spy thriller every now and then, but I otherwise tend to stick to non-fiction.
4.) Has a book ever changed your life?
I think that, obviously, reading often and widely helps one develop and refine his worldview. For specific books, the Bible always serves to align one's moral compass and the two others mentioned above which led to a lifelong love of reading.
5.) What attracts you to a book? The cover? Podcast? Recommendation from others?Haha, I know the old cliche is not to judge a book by its cover, but a good cover calls for you to pick it up! I have a close friend with whom I typically exchange books. Furthermore, recommendations from social media and Goodreads. I peruse the Wall Street Journal bookshelf section and the NYT Book Review weekly to see if anything catches my attention.
