1.) Did someone read to you when you were a child (who, what, when, where, why)?
I am not consciously aware anyone ever did so. But it is likely my mother would have as she has been a voracious reader all her life and we have always had rooms packed with books for as long as I can remember. She is fond of telling people I would tear the covers of books and climb bookcases as soon as my mobility as an infant would allow it.

2.) What’s the first book you remember reading that had a lasting effect on you?
‘The cowardly attack on Pearl Harbor’, an entry in the Dutch ‘Lekturama’ (similar to ‘Time Life’) series on WW2. I read it over and over. I only realized later on it was a translation of the official history of the US Army of the period.

3.) What genre(s) do you love?
Military/ naval/ maritime/ urban history, poetry, politics, short horror stories.

4.) Has a book ever changed your life?
If graphic novels count, I would say ‘The Dark Knight Returns’, I would also add ‘Confieso haber vivido’ (Neruda’s autobiography) and ‘Poet in New York’ by Lorca to that list.

5.) What attracts you to a book? The cover? Podcast? Recommendation from others?
The possibility of finding a new take on a subject I already know or want to learn about.
